After assembling the clutch pack and installing the snap ring, I measure .020" clearance.. or .025" if I push down and jamb the feeler gauge in. The manual specs it needs to be .030-.050".

Get it to where you feel it's right, if it's .030" that's fine. Machine the pressure plate at the snap ring side to pick up what you need. Hutch. The mechanic has suggested that either this clutch needs a CCM style cover or a spacer made for the B50 cover to get enough clearance.
